What's in a name?

Why Malakai?

So far everyone who's voluntered their opinion has loved the name Malakai, and loved that we can shorten it to Kai. Then again, it's not just anybody who would tell you they don't like the name you just chose to taint your child with for the rest of his life. (Maybe they would have if we had named him Chester Kai, like I once suggested!). But we loved the name and it was on the top of our list from early on. It wasn't until we were at a Hesston College baseball game in April that we settled on Malakai, with Kai for short.

So, what does it all mean?

KAI Means:
* Welsh: Earth
* Hawaian: Sea, Ocean
* Native American: Willow Tree
* Japanese: Sea, Forgiveness
* Greek: Derivation of Gaia, Earth
* Burmese: Strong, Unbreakable.

MALAKAI Means:
* Hebrew: My Messenger (mal'ak in Hebrew means angel or messenger)

And the last book of the OT is of course named after the Social Justice prophet Malachi.

So there you have it! Say it 200 times a day like we do, and you'll fall in love with it just like us. Peace.
